SD conceived this architectural estate as a series of simple stone volumes carved from a hillside quarry, the Main and Guest Houses emerge from the undulating topography inviting a cross-sectional experience of the relationship between the building and its hillside site.

Primary site walls define conceptual thresholds through which the sequence delicately unfolds linking spaces and choreographing moments of pause at small natural gardens that filter between them. Following the soft curvature of the hillside, the design’s outwardly expanding geometry maximizes stunning views to the west towards The Getty Museum, Santa Monica, and the expansive Pacific Ocean. Full-height glazing in all rooms take full advantage of the views, and minimize the perception of division between indoor and outdoor spaces.

As you enter the estate from Tione Road, the long arching driveway delivers you to the large motor-court of the primary residence which offers one of the best views on the property. A pathway along the eastern edge of the site utilizes the soft curve of a principal site wall to draw one into the home where you are greeted with another spectacularly framed view from the entry.

With its three levels, the Main House features over 21,000 square feet of living space. On the entry level the Kitchen, Dining, and Great Room occupy the southern half of the property with a private 3,500 square Master Suite to the north. Large decks along the western façade provide space for cooking, dining, lounging and private reflection.

The lower level contains an 8-car garage adjacent to the 15-seat home theater and staff quarters. Situated between the theater and 4-bedroom wing is a large lounge space with a 3,000 bottle wine room, ample space for game tables or other entertainment that opens out to over 4,000 SF of open lawn with generous deck area for entertaining, capped with a 20’x50’ swimming vessel featuring an Olympic-length lap pool bordering the entire west edge of the property.

Above, the upper level office / library opens on to a large private roof deck with additional and exceptional views. To the Southwest of the Main House, a path traversing a soft canyon guiding you past the orchard to the Wellness Center and Guest House. The living quarters and the Wellness Center are separated by the communal living and kitchen area with all interiors expanding to the exterior decks and infinity-edged pool. The resort-like Wellness Center includes a gym, spa, steam room, sauna, and massage room and is accessible from Stradella Road via a private gate that leads to a large motor court or down the drive ramp to a separate 8-car garage.
